Facilities, Instrumentation and Laboratory Information Management System:
CFA's commitment to providing the necessary environment to produce high quality data is reflected in our new facility. Our custom designed 5,170 square foot laboratory incorporates the newest forms of safety equipment and instrumentation in a modern location. CFA has three Waters Auto Spec HRMS Premier Models with MassLynx software. These instruments have Hewlett Packard 7890A GC with Leap GC PAL auto samplers.
CFA's networked Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS) is uniquely flexible and continually improved upon. Our system is composed of both an application server and a database server running Oracle. The application server and database reside on a Sun Microsystems Sun Fire V440 system with four 1.28GHz CPUs. Capabilities of our LIMS include but are not limited to the following:
- Maintains client and project specific requirements for each unique Statement of Work. This includes contract line item analytical tests, price per test, data package specifications, EDD specifications, turnaround times, detection limits, as well as any unique requirements for handling of the samples.
- Tracks the status and location of each sample container via the use of bar code identification. Each unique sample container is tracked as it is processed throughout the laboratory from receipt, sample storage and analysis to sample archive and ultimate sample disposal.
- Batches quality control (QC) samples with analytical samples ensuring traceability of QC data, and performs automatic checks to ensure that results fall within the acceptable QC range.
- Interfaces analytical instrumentation directly to the system, improving sample throughput and eliminating the possibility of data input errors.
- Generates customized reports and electronic data deliverables that are tailored to specific client needs; more than 300 unique EDD formats are supported currently including the GIS and SEDD formats.
- Tracks laboratory capacity, turnaround time and forecasts workload in each laboratory department (i.e. Extractions, Clean up, Analysis, Data review etc.).
